Former Barack Obama 2008 campaign manager David Plouffe said on MSNBC’s “The Beat” on Monday that he believes former President Donald Trump will not run for president in 2024.
Asked about Trump, Plouffe said, “I said for a while, and I might end up eating those words, I doubt he’ll end up running. Because I think ultimately you can see the trend lines. In some newsgroups that have been reported on Republicans, even people like him are saying it’s time for something new. Because they think it’s the best way to win. And what’s fascinating about the pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago is that I think it’s probably the Republicans who do the most in November, in the real competitive races for Senate, Governor and House, this are those who show a little distance from Trump.
He added: “What Trump is doing deeply hurts his party. You remember the pack in ’10 and ’12. Republicans left three, four, five Senate races on the cutting room floor because they nominated people who couldn’t win the general election. I think some of the people Trump gets his hands on could lose winnable races. »
Plouffe concluded: “The reason I say I don’t think he won’t run, and I’m way off on a limb here, is that we’ve seen that our democracy is about to end. right now.”
