Donald Trump mocked a scheduled call between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, comparing him to the New England Patriots playing against a high school football team.
Asked about Biden’s planned virtual meeting with Putin on Tuesday, where the two would discuss Ukraine, Trump tore the Biden administration apart and praised his own record in dealing with world leaders.
“We never had a problem. No one has been harder than me on Russia. And I loved Putin – I got along really well with him ”, Trump said on Newsmax’s “Spicer & Co”, before bragging about his administration’s opposition to Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline across Europe.
“I got along well with Putin, but I was tough on Putin – harder than anyone. And harder than anyone with China ”, said the 45th US President. “I got along very well with Kim Jong-un, I got along very well with Chinese President Xi and I got along well with Putin, but I was tough on everyone.”
Trump protested that the next meeting between Biden and Putin would not be “A fair match for our country”, affirming, “It’s not even a game that should even be allowed.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced last week that Biden would raise concerns about “Russian military activities on the border with Ukraine and reaffirm US support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine” during their meeting, while discussing other topics such as cybersecurity and bilateral relations.
