In the interview, Welker raised the possibility that South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem recently supported Trump while appearing alongside him at a fundraiser in her home state.
Trump called her “fantastic” and said she was someone he would consider choosing.
Nikki Haley, one of several contenders in Trump’s primary, is also among the potential candidates. Haley previously served as governor of South Carolina and then ambassador to the United Nations, after being appointed by Trump.
Some male presidential candidates are also considered potential choices.
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy went so far as to support the former president by pledging to pardon him if he was elected. Trump said he was open to Ramaswamy being his vice presidential nominee, but Ramaswamy said he was not interested in the runner-up spot.
Additionally, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott’s refusal to attack Trump suggests he may be keeping his options open if invited to the Trump 2024 ticket.
Trump and his former vice president Mike Pence have recently stepped up their attacks on each other on the campaign trail, effectively excluding him from the 2024 veepstakes.
