Trump’s haters immediately fell in love with the Justice Department’s spin on Donald Trump’s seized passports before the former president’s team proved it.
On Monday, former President Trump claimed on his social media site TruthSocial that the FBI “stole” his passports in the raid on his home that rocked the political world last week.
“During the FBI Mar-a-Lago raid, they stole my three passports (one expired), along with everything else,” he said. “This is an assault on a political opponent on a level never seen before in our country. Third World!”
Hours later, CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell said a DOJ official said the former president’s passports were not in their possession, one of which was likely to have been a diplomatic passport.
“According to a DOJ official, the FBI is NOT in possession of former President Trump’s passports. Trump had accused the FBI of stealing his three passports during the search of his home in Mar-a-Lago” , O’Donnell announced on Monday.

Shortly after Norah’s post, Taylor Budowich, the president’s former director of communications, shared an email from Jay Bratt, the top counterintelligence official in the Department of Justice’s National Security Division. Justice, confirming that three passports had been seized during the raid and that they would soon be returned to the former president.
“We have learned that screening officers seized three passports belonging to President Trump, two expired and one being his active diplomatic passport. We are returning them and they will be ready for pickup from WFO at 2 p.m. today,” the email to Trump’s attorneys read.
Ahead of the debunked claim that Norah O’Donnell immediately edited, some of the former president’s biggest haters surged, claiming he had lied or that his passports had been legitimately seized.

Another red herring, trying to redirect our attention. Maybe he didn’t want people thinking about his accountant today or his lawyer. Or maybe he just likes the attention on him. Or maybe he just likes to follow the news. Or maybe he just doesn’t know where his passports are. 😂 https://t.co/TegFnxzyDb

This man had the nuclear codes.
Basically, it’s me rummaging through my bag on my way back from dinner 5 km from the restaurant: “I left my phone at the restaurant. Let’s go back.”
Husband: “Are you sure?”
I do. It’s not here.”
One block from the restaurant: “it’s here”. https://t.co/tTVkT0UuPz

It is embarrassing how easily Trump still manipulates the media to cover up his lies. Just assume everything he says is complete bullshit and move on. https://t.co/9ZCSkzixsT

When Trump releases a statement, the operating assumption should be that he is lying to the country

I certainly don’t like to sound conspiratorial, but the oldest KGB tactic was to send messages publicly. Mafia tactics too. And this isn’t the first time Trump has made outlandish claims. https://t.co/LDmdlboWLU
