Travel advisory must highlight how harmful DeSantis would be as president

NAACP President Derrick Johnson said on MSNBC’s “Ana Cabrera Reports” on Monday that his organization issued an official advisory against travel to Florida to warn “how badly” Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) would be president.

Johnson said, “It was important for the NAACP and other organizations to speak out on behalf of those attacked. We have a large base of members in the state of Florida who feel under siege. Sadly, the Governor is using his platform to advance some of the most regressive racist policies in his bid to become President of the United States.

Cabrera said, “But Florida isn’t alone in passing controversial legislation. Texas, for example, passed a law restricting critical race theory. There have been book bans in several states. Several states have restricted voting rights. Why is the NAACP focusing specifically on Florida?

Johnson said: “You have an individual who wants to run for president, and the nation needs to be aware of that and careful. If we were to decide to go in this direction, it would take us back to the Trump years and the 1950s. This is so that individuals across the country will know clearly how harmful this individual would be if, in fact, he occupied the House White.
