Tottenham Women’s Ashleigh Neville wins Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month award | Soccer News

Tottenham Women defender Ashleigh Neville has won the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month award for February.

Spurs won their two WSL games in February against Brighton and Birmingham. Neville scored in both games and, especially for a defender, also kept his sheets clean.

Neville is also the first Tottenham player to win the Player of the Month award, with the team sitting third in the WSL, two points behind second-placed Chelsea.

Talk to Inside the WSLNeville said: “I didn’t know until I got the call last week to say ‘congratulations you’ve won the award’. I was also told I had entered the history by being the first [from Spurs].

“It’s good for me, but also for the team. It shows how far we’ve come and I’m proud of myself for getting it but I couldn’t have done it without the girls.

“Looking back, we’ve come a long way. To get the two wins [in February] after a difficult start after Christmas. It propelled us to third place in the championship and that’s only positive for all of us.

“I love getting a clean sheet, but I also love to score, so it’s a bit of both. It’s worked well this month, which is great.”

The Manager of the Month and Goal of the Month awards will be announced later Thursday.
