Tottenham: two Spurs players tested positive for coronavirus after international break | Football news

Tottenham’s plans for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle were plunged into chaos after two players tested positive for the coronavirus.

The two men, who trained with the group on Thursday, contracted Covid-19 after testing in the past 24 hours.

The two anonymous players must now self-isolate for 10 days under government rules, keeping them out of play at St James’ Park, a Europa League game against Vitesse Arnhem and the London derby at West Ham at the weekend next.

The club are confident that no other player will have to isolate themselves after coming into close contact.

Sunday October 17 4:00 p.m.

Kick-off at 4.30 p.m.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday afternoon, Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo admitted he was left with “huge problems” after the last international break.

The news will bring more frustration to Nuno, who saw his team suffer following the international matches in September when some of the team returned injured and three South American players went to Croatia for 10 days in order to avoid a difficult quarantine in England.

Spurs signed ahead of the international break with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Nuno said earlier on Friday: “After the international break there are still huge problems happening. We have problems but I will not say that until the game.”
