It looks like Tottenham’s summer is about to get interesting as they prepare to sign Spain prodigy Bryan Gil.
The 20-year-old is expected to join Sevilla, swapping places with Argentina midfielder Erik Lamela, while another 25million euros (£ 21.6million) and additions will also go to La Liga.
You know it’s potentially a successful deal when the supporters of the selling club are not happy with the terms offered.
When news of the deal was broken by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, many were surprised to lose their starlet, who spent last season on loan with Eibar.
He may have only scored four goals and three assists in La Liga in 28 appearances, but his other stats place him firmly among the best wingers in the country.
And Spain certainly have some great players in that mold right now.
His performances for Eibar sparked the interest of many clubs before Spurs rushed in with their offer.
Real Madrid and Arsenal were two of the teams interested, while Barcelona only pulled out of the race due to their monetary problem and lack of need in the position.
Former Barca scout ‘Mani’ told Cadena Ser in February: “At the moment he is the best Spanish footballer and I compare him to Neymar. He can do some things and has great versatility because he can play in the back in the middle or on the left wing.
“I spoke about him with Roman Planes (Barcelona sporting director) and he has Bryan Gil in mind.”
Gil, however, isn’t too interested in hearing such comparisons.

He told Marca: “He’s one of my favorite players. I find it very crazy to be compared to Neymar. I don’t really like reading the news or being on social media, and when friends emailed me I liked it but so far it just seems crazy to me.
And what about Barcelona’s interest? Well, he took it in his stride.
He added: “I always like being on the agenda of one of the best teams in the world, but I have a contract until 2023 with Sevilla and my agent will take care of whether or not to do that. Right now I can’t, I don’t want to get involved in these things.
Direct left-footed winger, on the left flank, Gil is a bit of a throwback in a game full of inside attackers who cut inside at every opportunity.
And while Eibar may have been relegated after finishing 20th in Spain last season, his stats put him among the best in the division.
His 52 assists placed him seventh in La Liga, he shot in the fourth most crosses (110) and dribbled past the fourth most players (78), among other impressive numbers including the eighth highest number of actions creating actions per 90 minutes 3.87).
Oh, and he muscled seven players last season – the same amount as a Lionel Messi. Good company to be in.
Spanish publication Marca compared the 20-year-old to Barcelona and Ajax legend John Cruyff for his skills on the pitch, and his appearance too, with a lean haircut framing his features.
And it’s already making waves on the international stage.
He made three appearances for Luis Enrique’s Spanish side and was certainly in the running to be part of their squad for Euro 2020.
“I like him a lot. From the first conversation I had with him, I see him as very mature and very calm,” Enrique said.
Instead, however, he will represent his nation at the Tokyo Olympics, alongside Barcelona prodigy Pedri, former Arsenal player Dani Ceballos and Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
And although he may be leaving Sevilla after starting just one game for the club, he helped them win the Europa League in 2019/20.
Gil has made four appearances in his European campaign and it starts with a 1-0 loss to APOEL Nicosia.
Meanwhile, on a previous loan with Leganes, he also managed to score against Real Madrid, so he has a good pedigree for such a youngster.
Now the plot comes from where Nuno Espirito Santo sees it in his plans.
