Sorry to bring up John Barnes and World In Motion so soon after the events of this month, but we have another rapper footballer on our hands.
It probably doesn’t help that he’s also from Italy.
Nonetheless, Tottenham’s incoming signing – goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini – is an interesting character, both on and off the pitch.
New Spurs sporting director ex-Juventus player Fabio Paratici will know all about the 26-year-old since his stint in Atalanta goals in the past three years.
English football fans may also recognize Gollini when he arrives on loan in north London.
The Italian spent two years in Manchester United’s youth system between 2012 and 2014, then made a brief stint at Aston Villa from 2016 to 2018 – although it didn’t go so well.
In his two years at Villa Park, Gollini only made 20 league appearances, but his time in Serie A was far more impressive.
The goalkeeper was a key member of the Atalanta squad which advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals and contested for the title in the 2019/20 campaign.

His exploits even earned him a call-up for Italy – and he made his debut as a substitute in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
There is every chance that Gollini can compete with Hugo Lloris for the no. 1 shirt at Spurs, but we don’t think Drake and Kendrick Lamar will give up their day job when they hear him rap.
In June 2018, under the clever pseudonym Gollorius, the goalkeeper released a single titled “Rapper Coi Guanti” (Rapper with gloves).
In all fairness, it had over a million views on YouTube and all of the proceeds were donated to charity.
Let’s just hope, for Tottenham’s sake, that we get lyrical when we see him play.
