Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles undergoes heart surgery

The 69-year-old former Spurs player and manager had heart surgery this week.

Tottenham tweeted: “The club would like to send their best wishes to our ambassador and legendary former player @osvaldooardiles, who underwent successful heart surgery this week and is now recovering in hospital. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Ossie!

One of Tottenham’s all-time greats, Ardiles won the 1978 World Cup with Argentina and made 311 appearances for Spurs between 1978 and 1988.

He helped the club reach the 1982 FA Cup final and lift the UEFA Cup in 1984.

Capped 53 times by Argentina, Ardiles moved into management at the end of his playing career, first as a player/coach at Swindon before stints at Newcastle, West Brom and then a return to Spurs in 1993 .

He then found success in Japan, where he won the J-League, the Emperor’s Cup and the Nabisco Cup.

Now a Tottenham ambassador, Ardiles has represented the club abroad and as matchday hosts.
