Tottenham have completed the £ 25.8million transfer of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.
The Brazil international had recently joined Barca after two and a half years on loan at Real Betis, another LaLiga club, but is now heading straight to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on a five-year contract.
A club statement wrote: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona, subject to international clearance and a work permit.
“The right-back has signed a contract with us until 2026 and will wear jersey number 12.”
Spurs lead the Premier League with a perfect record in their opening three games, beating Watford, Manchester City and Wolves 1-0.
New manager Nuno Espírito Santo had had a disruptive start to his career in north London, with striker Harry Kane being publicly pursued by league champions Man City.
Kane stayed on and the Portuguese coach sailed through the distractions for a flawless start to the championship, which will now be reinforced by the arrival of Emerson.
Young squad graduate Japhet Tanganga started the first three league games at right-back but will now face stiff competition from much-loved Emerson, who has spent the summer helping Brazil in the Copa America final.
The attacking full-back has been watched by Arsenal and has also played on the wing, having scored four goals and 10 assists in La Liga with Betis in the past two seasons.
Emerson becomes Tottenham’s fifth signing of the summer after Cristian Romero, Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr.
