Tottenham agree deal to sign Chelsea starlet Jude Soonsup-Bell as young Blues consider future
Ottenham have agreed a fee to sign Chelsea Under-21 striker Jude Soonsup-Bell to bolster the club’s academy.
The 19-year-old is highly regarded at Cobham but has sought another route, ending his contract until his final six months.
Spurs are now expected to seal the signing when Soonsup-Bell completes a medical and puts pen to paper on his new contract.
North Londoners are hoping Soonsup-Bell can help their struggling U21 side, who are currently stuck in second tier in the Premier League 2, by offering them a long-term route to the first team via loans from next season.
Soonsup-Bell had a similar offer from Manchester City and clubs abroad but is now expected to join long-distance rivals Chelsea.
There remains some concern in west London that a host of young players could leave Cobham after new owners Chelsea spent nearly £500m on new players this season, with two days more before the transfer window closes.
However, Charlie Webster has rejected Dortmund and PSV’s interest in staying at Chelsea. Fellow academy stars Malik Mothersille and Dion Rankine are also expected to remain in the Blues’ academy.
Concerns remain over the future of a dozen other youngsters who see their contracts expire this summer, leaving them free to plan their outings.
