Tottenham agree £20m transfer deal with Destiny Udogie after Antonio Conte’s personal recommendation

standard sports understands Spurs will pay £15m upfront for the teenage left-back, a fee that could rise to £20m with add-ons.

Udogie is expected to agree personal terms and undergo a medical in Italy, where he will stay for the 2022-23 Serie A campaign on loan at Udinese. There are no plans to bring him to their base at Hotspur Way in order to do a deal.

The highly rated 19-year-old Italy Under-21 international will become Tottenham’s seventh signing of a busy summer transfer window which has already seen Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Clement Lenglet and Fraser Forster arrive in North London.

Spurs continue to be linked with a move for Roma and Italy winger Nicolo Zaniolo, meanwhile.

Udogie comes personally recommended by Tottenham boss Antonio Conte and is seen by the club as a young player with great potential, having made 35 appearances during an impressive campaign at Udinese, who he joined on loan from Hellas Verona with obligation to purchase last summer.

The deal is similar to one which saw Pape Matar Sarr join Tottenham last summer before being immediately loaned to French club Metz for the 2021-22 season.

Spurs did not make full debuts to any of their signings for the start of the final Premier League season on Saturday, with Perisic and Bissouma coming off the bench in a 4-1 comeback against Southampton in N17.

Richarlison was banned for this game due to a late one-game suspension for a controversial flare-up celebration at Everton last season, but will be available to bow at Tottenham in the London derby against Chelsea at Stamford. Bridge Sunday.
