Tori Did It: Curls Come to Life at Philadelphia’s All-New Curly Hair Salon

PHILADELPHIA — Tori McCutcheon started focusing on curly hair three years ago when she couldn’t find anyone in Philadelphia who could cut curly hair.

“I felt there was definitely a lack of hairdressers who were providing services for people like me,” McMutcheon said.

Being a hairdresser herself, she knew that taking care of curly hair was something that was never taught in hairdressing school. S

he says “They don’t see curly hair as an education in hairdressing school, it’s still considered a niche, you’re not expected to know that”.

She decided to learn on her own by watching YouTube videos and practicing on friends.

She finally opened her salon, Tori Did That, in June.

She says women have always been taught that straight hair is more polished and professional, but she wants to help more women embrace their locks in an environment where they feel comfortable.
