Top-seeded Heat crushes Hawks, 115-91, in Game 1

The Miami Heat earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and played the part Sunday in a blowout 115-91 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Hawks star point guard Trae Young made just one field goal in the game and missed all seven of his three-point attempts. Young people marked only eight points in the loss, his lowest total ever in a playoff game and his worst showing in any game since January 2021.

While Young failed to find success beyond the three-point arc, Miami’s Duncan Robinson had no problem with eight three-pointers on nine attempts. Robinson came off the bench to lead all game scorers with 27 points.

Six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler finished with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Heat’s win.

Atlanta finished the regular season ninth in the Eastern Conference, but sailed into the NBA play-in tournament with wins over the Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers to advance to the playoffs. Young scored 24 points against the Hornets and 38 points against the Cavaliers.

Game 2 between the Heat and Hawks is scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
