Top-flight Hyderabad prepare for a thrilling contest against mighty Punjab

Kane Williamson has turned around a poor start to the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with three trotting wins, but Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be well aware of the threat posed by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) which they face off in the first game on Sunday at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Both teams are locked on six points after three wins from five games, which puts them decently on the IPL 2022 points table.
Hyderabad entered the game after a landslide victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their last game. SRH pacers T Natarajan (3/37) and quick improvement Umran Malik (2/27) helped limit KKR at 175/8. The Hyderabad batters then barely broke a sweat as Rahul Tripathi (71 from 37 balls) and Aiden Markram (68* from 36 balls) guided the team to a 7-wicket win.

SRH have been on a roll since back-to-back defeats to start the campaign and the team appear to be in fine form in all departments. Openers Williamson and youngster Abhishek Sharma are able to provide quick starts for a solid middle order. The bowling attack also looks deadly, with the only concern being the lack of a specialist spinner.

Punjab, meanwhile, are coming off a thrilling 12-point win over Mumbai Indians (MI). Captain Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan both hit half-cents as PBKS posted a dominating 198/5. Their bowling attack was then put to the test, but this time Odean Smith managed to defend 22 in the final and finished with a four-wicket run.

PBKS is developing a reputation for its hard-hitting style with Agarwal, Dhawan and Livingstone in good form. Once Jonny Bairstow starts shooting, the team will look even more menacing. The bowling attack is equally impressive with Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh playing well, but Rahul Chahal will need to recover quickly after being hit for 29 points by ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis.

PBKS vs SRH Team News:

Sunrisers Hyderabad: SRH will continue to be without Washington Sundar who is recovering from injury. However, Jagadeesha Suchith fitted in well against KKR finishing with 1/32 and will be keen to impress again.

Kings of Punjab: PBKS has a well-rounded squad and won’t be eager to tinker with what looks like a winning formula. They don’t have any injury problems compared to the previous game.

PBKS vs SRH Overview Report: The last two matches at this venue saw totals of 192/4 and 216/4 successfully defended by RCB and CSK respectively. The pitch favored the hitters and we should be in for a high scoring game.

Where to watch live: The match begins at 3:30 PM IST on Sunday, April 15 with the draw scheduled for 3:00 PM IST. The match will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network. Viewers can also tune in to the action via Disney+ Hotstar.
