Tony Hsieh, former Zappos CEO, dies at 46 in house fire

LAS VEGAS – Tony Hsieh, the retired CEO of online shoe retailer Zappos.com, has died after being injured in a house fire. He was 46.

Megan Fazio, spokeswoman for Hsieh’s DTP Companies, confirmed in a statement that he died peacefully Friday surrounded by family.

Puoy Premsrirut, Hsieh’s lawyer, said in an email he “sustained injuries from a house fire” while visiting Connecticut.

The cause of death is still under investigation, Premsrirut said. She did not provide details about the fire.

“Tony’s kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone around him, and forever brightened the world,” DTP Companies said in a statement. “Delivering happiness was always his mantra, so instead of mourning his transition, we ask you to join us in celebrating his life.”
