Tommy Fury reveals he is “absolutely heartbroken” after withdrawing from Jake Paul fight over injury and illness
T

ommy Fury has confirmed his fight with Jake Paul is over after suffering a broken rib and chest infection in preparation for the fight.

The couple were due to step into the ring on December 18 and sort out their discontent, with Tyson Fury among those helping to prepare his brother for the fight.

But it’s now over, with Fury revealing why he had to step down less than two weeks before the fight.

“I am absolutely heartbroken that I was forced to retire from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial infection in my chest and a broken rib,” Fury said.

“The start of my camp was going incredibly well and I didn’t expect anything to stand in my way after a win on December 18th.

“I can’t express my disappointment now and I really hope we can postpone this fight into the new year.

“I want this fight to happen more than anything. I now reluctantly focus on recovery and a new reprogramming date. “

The card will always go forward, with Paul now fighting UFC fighter Tyron Woodley, whom he beat earlier this year in Cleveland.

Frank Warren, the promoter of Fury, has confirmed that he will look to reschedule Paul’s fight at some point in the New Year.

Paul reacted to the news on Twitter, suggesting he didn’t think Fury was actually hurt.

“It’s official, Tommy Fury is the biggest dick in boxing,” said Paul.

“The Furys have withdrawn from the fight due to a ‘medical condition’, who knows what’s going on in this camp.

“At first I couldn’t believe the news, it still doesn’t feel real.

“He groped the biggest bag of his life – now he’s going to pay me $ 60 [to watch] instead of being paid millions of dollars to fight me.

“I fought with a broken nose, I fought ill. Put yourself in your place, it’s boxing. I think the pressure has come to him.
