Tom Brady currently leads the NFL at the age of 44, throwing for 1,767 yards in the first five weeks

The quarterback is king in the NFL. And the league has arguably never been stronger in this role, with an abundance of young talent.

Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Justin Herbert: these are the new darlings of the NFL. And yet, it is a 44-year-old player who leads the league!

Tom Brady, even with all of his monumental in-game accomplishments already – a record seven Super Bowl rings, to go with three league MVP awards, and having recently been crowned the NFL’s all-time best passer – has gone without doubts its best year ever.

Brady threw for 1,767 yards in the first five games of the season – that’s 162 better than Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr at number two – and his 15 touchdown passes are just behind Mahomes and the Chiefs of Kansa City.

Brady has only led the NFL in passing yards three times before in his two-decade career, in 2005, 2007 and 2017 – the last two of those that culminated in two of his MVP Awards.

At the remarkable age of 44, could Brady claim another one given the way he plays?

“If he wins the MVP, back when we have the best quarterbacks we’ve ever had – records broken left and right – and he’s 44, then that would be [his greatest accomplishment], ” hello football presenter Kyle Brandt said this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady says he thinks he could play until he is 50 in the NFL.

“What he’s doing is amazing,” added Peter Schrager on the show. “I know he says he can go to 45, or 50, or whatever, but let’s appreciate it at 44.

“It’s crazy what Brady is doing right now and he’s looking better than ever.”

Only eight quarterbacks currently total over 300 yards and over 2 touchdowns per game in the first five weeks of the 2021 NFL season. Six of them are 26 or younger, including the aforementioned Mahomes, Allen and Herbert.

Add to that Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts. And the two exceptions? A 33-year-old Matthew Stafford with the Los Angeles Rams, and of course Brady – both the beneficiaries of moving to another team and getting a new lease on life in a new place.

Tom Brady won six Super Bowl rings in New England with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick before leaving in 2020

Brady was apparently on the decline in New England. In his final season with the Patriots in 2019, his 4,057 passing yards were the worst six of his career (over a full 16-game season), while his 24 touchdowns were his second lowest score, as were his 6.6 yards. by attempt.

There was a widespread belief that Brady’s run was over, that he was no longer able to stretch his defenses, and that his age had finally caught up with his body.

How wrong we were. As proven from Brady’s departure, the reason for his dramatic downfall was actually a talentless Patriots attack that hastened his exit from the squad, with Brady looking to spend his final years with a competitor.

Tom Brady celebrates Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ win over Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV

As New England stumbled to a 7-9 record in 2020, Brady and the Bucs were linked to the Super Bowl, lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy – and there’s no reason to suggest that, for six weeks, this year will end differently.

The Patriots are 2-3, with one of those losses at the hands of Brady in his dramatic comeback to Foxborough in Week 4, while the Buccaneers are 4-1 with a loss of week three in Los Angeles against the Stafford Rams, their only flaw. .

“Brady and that offense is as good as anyone in football,” Chris Simms said on Professional football discussion this week.

“It’s unreal – the way he plays, the way they protect him, the guns he has on the outside.

“They are the best passing attack in football – even if the statistics don’t confirm it.”

The statistics actually back it up; Thanks to Brady’s remarkable start to the season, Tampa Bay is in possession of the league’s No. 1 passing offense.

They could also have the next NFL MVP as a quarterback.
