Tokyo 2020. Sailing (470): the final of the Bretons Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz live – Tokyo 2020

With 14 points behind the English Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre, currently in the lead before this Medal Race, the French, coached by the Douarnenist Gildas Philippe, are only 4 points ahead of the Poles Agnieszka Skrzypulec – Jolanta Ogar. We must also be wary of the Slovenes Tina Mrak -Véronique Macarol, 4th at 16 points who can still hope for a medal.

Tuesday, on his Instagram account, Aloïse Retornaz summed up the situation perfectly: “If we finish in the first seven, it’s a guaranteed medal.

– For gold, you have to put six boats between us and GBR and at most just behind Poland.

– For the money: at most, you have to be just behind Poland and five boats away from the Slovenes ”.

Camille Lecointre, 36 years old (bronze medalist at the Rio Olympics with Hélène Defrance), and Aloïse Retornaz, 27 years old, double European champions 2019 and 2021, elected “Sailors of the year 2019” want to go get the ‘gold but that does not depend only on them: “If, at some point, it does not do any more for the gold medal, it will be necessary to refocus on the money. The gold medal is less in our hands so it’s not up to us. Afterwards, the English women can crack, take a premature start (laughs…), make mistakes. We are not going to be satisfied with trying to plant the Englishwoman because we have our place to defend ”.

Good news, the weather forecast is for a fairly light wind, 5 to 6 knots from the south. We remember that under identical conditions, in 2019, during the Test Event in Enoshima, the Bretons largely dominated the final.
