Few footballers can play for the club they love, but Arsenal star Tobin Heath does just that.
Heath has won a range of silverware in a stellar career to date, which has included winning World Cup and Olympic gold twice with the United States.
She was also named in the FIFPro Women’s World XI in 2020 and last year she made one of her childhood dreams come true when she signed for the Gunners after leaving Women’s Super League rivals Manchester United , at the end of his contract.
Heath has been an Arsenal fan since she was young and says it’s a special feeling to play for the club she supports.
“I loved watching Arsenal as a kid,” she explained.
“Every year I used to get the new team poster which I put above the old team poster in my room. Special players like Henry, Vieira, Cesc [Fabregas] [were great]. I loved Invincibles. I loved the way they played and then the results that came with that style and Arsène [Wenger] and his philosophy was just brilliant.
“You think about the players and the coaches who changed the evolution of football and this club is just iconic for him. Obviously that started what I feel for the club and now it’s a unique and special experience to be here as a fan.
Arsenal are currently five points clear of reigning champions Chelsea at the top of the table and have recently shown real courage to fight back and score results against Manchester United and Man City.

The Gunners have played some really engaging football this season and Heath believes new boss Jonas Eidevall has instilled a real winning spirit within the team.
She continued: “I think at club level this is by far the most talented team I’ve ever been part of. Talent and potential is worth nothing unless you actually earn something. So it doesn’t necessarily equate to something that will be written in the history books, which is what we intend to do.
“It’s clear we have a manager who is ambitious and eager to win and make the team play the Arsenal way to win. So I think he brought a lot of new ideas and new energy which lifted the group and gave a lot of confidence.
Women’s football is only going in one direction in the UK, with the WSL enjoying its most competitive season yet and a host of exciting young players starting to make their mark.
The WSL has also been boosted by new broadcast deals over the past year which, alongside sponsorship of the league by Barclays, have opened up women’s football to a whole new audience.
But this level of support has not been replicated in other countries around the world and Heath believes there is still work to be done on the business side of the game.
“I think we should just start with standards in the workplace to create a real professional environment that women and girls aspire to be in and have more matches and games that celebrate and show belief in the women’s football, like the games at the Camp Nou or the Emirates,” she concluded.
“There are so many business opportunities in women’s football that are not even being taken advantage of. Women’s football deserves the incredible.
