Tim Ryan says members of Congress shouldn’t have to show up for work

U.S. Senate hopeful Rep. Tim Ryan (D) from Ohio has claimed proxy voting in Congress should be permanent – ultimately allowing lawmakers not to show up for in-person work – after abuse of the rule in order to embark on the electoral campaign all week long.

Ryan, a ten-term congressman, is taking on the Senate after his failed bid for the presidential nomination in 2020. He was re-elected to Congress in 2020 and served as a surrogate for Biden.

He was caught lying recently about why he was voting by proxy.

Now — with a long track record of abusing the proxy voting system and being caught lying about it, and keeping his constituent offices in Ohio closed — he wants to make proxy voting permanent, which that would allow lawmakers to skip showing up for in-person work in Congress.

Ryan Told Taylor Popielarz of Spectrum News, “It’s time to make remote voting a permanent option. … I will never apologize for spending time in Ohio talking to Ohioans.

“Members of Congress should be able to use the technology available to us to do our jobs while meeting face-to-face with the people we serve, caring for children, and more,” Ryan said. “Unlike JD Vance, who is terrified of talking to voters here and seems to have spent the entire general election so far hiding in his DC townhouse.”

In response to Ryan, who is running for the Senate where he would ironically not be able to vote by proxy, Republicans attacked the career politician for lying to his constituents while being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by the taxpayers.

“Not only did Tim Ryan skip work to campaign, but he lied about the reasons and blamed the pandemic,” Taylor Van Kirk, spokesperson for JD Vance, Ryan’s Republican opponent, told Breitbart News. . “Tim Ryan spent 20 years in DC living off taxpayers to work Tuesday through Thursday, while regular Ohioans show up for work five days a week, and now he doesn’t want to show up in person at all?”

Lizzie Litzow, deputy director of communications for the National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC), the committee responsible for helping Republicans get elected to the Senate, also told Breitbart News, “Career politician Tim Ryan is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by taxpayers and is using Covid voting procedures to not do the job they pay him to do.

“And he wants to make sure other career politicians like him can do the same by making the remote voting rules permanent,” Litzow added. “Unfortunately for him, he won’t be able to take advantage of taxpayer-funded vacations for much longer, because the people of Ohio aren’t big believers in paying people for nothing.”

As Breitbart News summarized last week, Ryan is said to have a long track record of abusing the proxy voting system and using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to waste taxpayer resources.

The Washington Free Beacon first reported in February that Ryan was fundraising in Los Angeles “the day after the Super Bowl” and, at the time, had already voted by proxy 60 times. Additionally, in April, the outlet reported that in 2021 it had kept its Ohio constituency office, which costs taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars in rent, closed — allegedly because of the coronavirus, although he campaigned in person during this period.

In fact, in June 202o, Ryan criticized a lawsuit filed by Republicans to stop proxy voting. At the time, Ryan called it “political theater,” hoping the court would drop the case because Republicans were trying to “create controversy where there really isn’t any.”
