TikTok is part of the “battleground” of the “cold war” with China

On Friday’s “PBS NewsHour” program, New York Times columnist David Brooks said that “we are in the midst of a cold war with China” and technology like TikTok is “the battleground” in this cold war.

Brooks said: “We are in the middle of a cold war with China. It’s started. And it happened over two administrations, but especially with the Biden administration. It’s now official US policy – and I support it, I’m just saying how badly we should take it – official US policy to ban…chips and the technology used to make the chips that could go into a phone, car, toaster, missile, drone, or artificial intelligence technology. So now we’re really trying to crack down, not on the Chinese military, but on the Chinese economy, because there’s really no difference between those two things. So it’s just a very hard thing. So, if you’re wondering, were we in a cold war? Well, we were against the Soviets. We now behave as if we were against China. And I think we are with the Chinese.

He continued, “And that tends to hit technology the most. TikTok, (5G), chips, green energy, this is the battleground in this cold war, who controls the technology? »
