Tiger Woods aims to play Open Championship in July after Masters return

Tiger Woods said on Sunday after completing his first major event since 2020 that he plans to play The Open Championship in July in Scotland.

The 150th Open Championship, also known as the British Open, will be played at the Old Course in St. Andrews. Woods made the revelation while speaking to Sky News after wrapping up his first Masters appearance in almost two years.

The Open Championship takes place after the PGA Championship, which takes place May 19-22 at Southern Hills Championship Golf Course in Oklahoma. Woods said he will try to prepare as best he can to play this event as well.

“I’ll never play a full schedule again. It’ll just be the big events. I don’t know if I’m going to play Southern Hills or not, but I’m looking forward to St. Andrews. It’s something that’s close and dear to my heart,” Woods said.

“I won two Opens there. It’s the home of golf. It’s my favorite golf course in the world. I’ll be there for that one. But between that, I don’t know. I’ll try .I’m going to try and get you ready this week for Southern Hills and we’ll see what this body can do.”

Woods did not participate in last year’s tournament and no event took place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. He missed the cut in 2019 and finished sixth in 2018. He last won the Open in 2006 – his third title there.
