Three big issues Chelsea face in Juventus Champions League showdown

One point is enough for the holders to secure their place in the round of 16, but Thomas Tuchel will aim to win Group H.

Here, James Robson takes a look at three big issues the Blues face against Juventus.

Stop Chiesa

Italian Euro 2020 hero Federico Chiesa was a constant thorn on Chelsea’s side in Turin. They couldn’t handle his smart runs or his pace every time he got behind defense.

And it was he who made the difference that night, scoring the only goal of the game. In truth, he could and should have won more. Chelsea have been warned.

Make possession count

Chelsea went to Turin and totally dominated possession, with 73% of the ball. However, they ended up leaving with nothing and wondered how they had failed to capitalize on this domination.

An unnecessary finish was the answer, with Tuchel’s men registering just one shot on target from 16 attempts. They are due to be more clinical on Tuesday.

To do work

Qualification remains in the hands of the European champions – but they don’t want to travel to Russia in extremely cold conditions next month, needing to take something from Zenit to ensure a safe passage to the round of 16.

A draw on Tuesday is sufficient, but far from guaranteed. No slippage.
