He had taken a two-year break from competition to try his hand at boxing, but his comeback attempt went south when he was hit with the horrific injury.
The 34-year-old was trying to beat his all-time PB of 252.5kg when he ripped his pectoral from the bone, leaving him writhing in pain.
Bjornsson kept fans updated on his recovery on social media and with it, some graphic images.
He posted on Instagram on Wednesday: “I am 4 weeks post op. Unfortunately I had an infection 5 days ago which resulted in an abscess and I had to have a drainage tube inserted.
“Finally, this was removed today. Swipe to see the length of this one!
He later posted a collection of images during and after the operation, including a particularly graphic one of him having surgery and another of the drainage tube he had removed from his body.
Another image showed him patched up with a large scar between his pectoral and his shoulder.
Previous Instagram posts showed the extent of the injury and the bruising sustained from the tear.
The strongman also thanked the fans for their support after learning about his injury.
“Thank you all for the support, kind messages and love in these difficult times ahead,” he wrote.
“It really means the world to me. It’s just a challenge and a small setback. I will come back stronger.
“Peace and love, Hafthor.”

He defeated ‘The Beast’ with a unanimous decision victory in the Dubai fight, but then ended his boxing adventure after talks of a showdown with Tyson Fury fell through.
