Thomas Tuchel believes Mason Mount is “the complete package” among the full praise of the England star Chelsea.
Mount scored the first of Kai Havertz’s two goals as Chelsea passed Fulham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to consolidate fourth place in the Premier League table.
Havertz starred in the false nine role, doubling his championship total for the campaign, while Mount only produced the latest in a series of high profile screenings.
Tuchel omitted Mount from his first game at the helm of Chelsea as the Blues fought to a goalless draw with Wolves on January 21, but the academy graduate has steadily won over his new boss since that day.
German manager Tuchel has admitted Mount is expected to be among the best players in Europe already, at just 22 years old.
“He has the full package, mentally, in terms of talent and physically,” Tuchel said. “And the most important part is his character, he’s got his feet on the ground and he’s a nice guy.
“He comes to Cobham every day to learn something new and to have new experiences. He’s the guy who can recover really quickly, he’s a very physical player and perfectly suited to Premier League football.
“He has great confidence in himself in a very, very positive way. It is a pleasure to have him, to be by his side, to guide him and to support him.
“It’s impressive, he’s not affected by all the praise. Maybe that is the most important part. He seems like a guy who loves the sport and feels obligated to make the most of it. And he absolutely wants it. It’s a great mix. “
Mount took a blow to the back and was belatedly substituted as Chelsea racked up an 18th clean sheet under Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues boss has insisted the fit striker should be in no doubt for Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.
When asked if Mount spotted an injury problem, Tuchel said: “I hope not, it was my decision, there was no doctor or physio who told me to take it off. .
“But I saw him land hard and that was when we wanted to take him off anyway. I saw him hold his back lightly so we didn’t want to risk it but I didn’t. more information on this. “
Chelsea negotiated a tricky derby in West London against struggling Fulham in style, especially with their two-legged tie clash with European giants Madrid.
Tuchel applauded the feet of the players he selected on Saturday, admitting it was a big test to limit their focus in this clash.
“It’s the perfect game and the boys get a lot of credit from the coach for it,” Tuchel said.
“You can easily get confused between two big games like this. So it was absolutely necessary that we prepare for the game with full concentration.
“It was important that we fully invest physically and mentally. That’s why the team gets all the credit, it was a big win and we can arrive with a clear mind with nothing to regret or think about until Wednesday.”
Parker: We need four wins
Fulham’s fifth loss in six games brings them ever closer to relegation. But boss Scott Parker refuses to give up the ghost, despite his side trailing Newcastle by nine points with four games to go.
“I believe we can win games with performances like today,” Parker said. “And that’s what we have to do, there is no other option.
“I understand from the outside that people will laugh and think I’m crazy, but there is no other option for me. Even if we can, that is our main goal. from now until the end. “
