The 12th edition of this landmark initiative will witness the ultimate recognition of India’s top talent and celebrate the outstanding Indians who have shone in their field over the past year.

CNN-News18 is preparing to present the 2022 edition of its flagship awards program, Indian of the Year, on Wednesday, October 12. Through this program, CNN-News18 will recognize and reward achievement in categories that define the Indian spirit – sports, entertainment, politics, startups, social change and climate change.

The 12th edition of this landmark initiative will witness the ultimate recognition of India’s top talent and celebrate the outstanding Indians who have shone in their field over the past year. This year, a new category – Climate Warrior – will be awarded to people working on impactful and lasting change.

India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will be the chief guest at the ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Here is an overview of the different categories and their nominees:

Sports: Ashanta Sharath Kamal, Lakshya Sen, Neeraj Chopra, Nikhat Zareen, R Praggnanandhaa.

Entertainment: Alia Bhatt, Allu Arjun, Kartik Aaryan, Team RRR, Vivek Agnihotri.

Startups: Falguni Nayar (Nykaa), Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari (PhysicsWallah), Sriharsha Majety (Swiggy), Kamath Brothers (Zerodha), Sridhar Vembu and Tony Thomas (Zoho).

Social change: Asha Workers, Dr Shankare Gowda, Hemkunt Foundation, Raju Kendre, Tajamul Islam.

Climate warrior: Jadav Payeng, Jamuna Tudu, Marimuthu Yoganathan, Prasiddhi Singh, Sumaira Abdulali.

β€œThe Indian of the Year has achieved national and global acclaim because of the fields he has explored and the pillars he has recognized since his inception,” said CNN-News18 editor Zakka Jacob.

The event will also be attended by famous personalities like Sania Mirza and Sonu Sood. Famous folk and Sufi singer Mame Khan, known for his powerful voice in various Bollywood hits, will perform at the event.

The CNN-News18 Indian of the Year Awards are presented in partnership with RP-Sanjiv Goekna Group and Reliance Industries Limited.
