If you don’t suffer from vertigo, this one is for you.
According to Travel + Leisure Magazine, “The Goliath” at Six Flags Great America is one of the best roller coasters in the world – thanks to the highest drop of any wooden roller coaster in the world, according to the magazine.
“Although the coaster is only 165 feet tall,” the magazine says, “passengers aboard Goliath plunge 180 feet into an underground tunnel and emerge on the other side for a stomach-churning ride. .”
According to the Six Flags website, the Goliath holds not one, but three world records: “the world’s fastest wooden roller coaster” at 118 km/h, “the world’s highest drop for a mountain wooden roller coaster” at 180 feet and “the steepest drop in the world for a wooden roller coaster” at a nearly vertical 85 degrees.
Of the 19 coasters on Travel + Leisure magazine’s list, only eight are in North America.
