The children were bound by the ankles, wrists and neck. The medical examiner’s office is working to determine the cause of death, but police say it was likely strangulation.

“One is Jeffrey, and the other is Laura,” heartbroken dad Frantzy Belval said, showing us photos of his two children: Laura, 5, and Jeffrey, 3.

The person accused of committing the heinous act? Their own mother.

“You are a mother, how do you feel? There is a devil in your head, ”questions Darlene Petion, a friend of the family.

Joassaint, 41, is now behind bars, accused of killing her children.

“We got multiple 911 calls. They were calling but she wasn’t saying much,” Miami Dade Police Officer Michael Vega said.

When Miami police entered the apartment, they found the children tied up and unresponsive.

“The only thing she told the officers: they’re inside. Go get them. I don’t want them,” Vega said.

Police are still investigating what led to the killings, but said it was not the first time they had been to the house.

“We’ve answered it many times,” Vega says.

Family friends told CBS4 that Joassiant and Belval were together a few years ago, but the children lived there with their mother.

“Sometimes she was a good mother, sometimes I don’t know,” says Pétion.

Police say they have already responded to trespassing, multiple disturbances and domestic violence, but this is the first time there has been an incident involving children.
