A Southwest Airlines flight traveling from Dallas to Fort Lauderdale had to make a layover Wednesday afternoon due to a frightening altercation in the air.

Passenger Katie Engleson told Local 10 that a man and woman were vying for seats.
After the woman hit the man with a cell phone, the phone started to smoke, the Parkland resident said.
“It was really, really scary,” Engleson told the outlet.
“Everyone went crazy and all of a sudden we see smoke and I heard the words ‘fire’ and then next to us was the object literally smoking.”

The plane was rerouted before finally heading for Fort Lauderdale a few hours later, the airline said.
Southwest flight from Dallas Love Field was safely rerouted to Pensacola International Airport on Wednesday afternoon due to dispute between two passengers traveling together which resulted in a broken phone laptop that was smoldering and was placed in a battery containment bag by our flight attendants, ”Southwest Airlines told the Miami Herald in a statement Friday. “After both passengers exited the plane at Pensacola, the flight continued to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. We appreciate the patience, cooperation and support of customers on board.”
It is not known whether the two people who left the plane were traveling together or what happened to them after they disembarked.
