Roy Keane tore Manchester United apart for what he described as a ‘shameful’ performance in the derby loss to Man City.
The Old Trafford legend also claimed his former side ‘threw in the towel’ in the 4-1 hammering at the Etihad.
While the visitors performed well in the first half, they were the complete opposite in the second and capitulated to their rivals.
The result is significant in more ways than one, as Man United failed to get back into the top four following Arsenal’s win at Watford.
Keane thinks ‘five or six’ players should never play for the club again while checking the names of Fred, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford.
“The worst thing you can say about United is that they gave up,” the former captain told Sky Sports.
“For a player in a derby – or any game – to give up is truly unforgivable.

“The second half, we saw it. The beauty of top-level sport is that there is no hiding place.
“I know United have done well here for the past two years, but we saw all of United’s shortcomings today.
“There are ways to lose a football match. We’ve all lost football games, but the way they lost it today – they stopped running, they gave up and the players didn’t come back. That’s what I can’t understand.

“I think they’ve thrown in the towel which is shameful.
“United’s players have shown quality over the years, but that reflects the situation of the team and the club.
“They are so far behind the other teams.
“Some of the players, you have to play with a bit of pride.
“I would forgive mistakes, but you have to step back. I look at five or six players and I think: ‘You should never play for Manchester United again’.
“It’s shameful, shameful that you can’t go back and put your body on the line.
“You have the subs coming in, you’re hoping they’ll make an impact and they’re not ready to run around.
“A few guys in midfield, Wan Bissaka, Fred, Maguire, Marcus Rashford came in; I could go on.
“They concede four goals and City weren’t even at their best. They still had some gears to go – they played with them a bit for a while.
“It was men against boys and it was shameful.”
Former Man City defender Micah Richards, who sat next to Keane, was understandably on cloud nine and appreciated his colleague’s reaction.
Laughing, he said, “I was trying to hold it back! Honestly what he said was completely [right].
“Why don’t you go back to work, honestly you could do a better job than what they are doing there.”
The result leaves United fifth, one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have two games in hand.
