Officially launched in November 2020 on the banks of the Légué, the company Exokit could revolutionize the van fitting market. Morgan Barroux and Raphaël Guigo, the two young partners of the project, came up with an apparently very simple idea: the kit. “We design and manufacture furniture at the customer’s request and we deliver them as a kit, with tools, so that they can assemble them himself,” explains the Briochin duo. On the menu: almost unlimited configurations and a completely customizable layout, in a price range from € 800 to € 4,000.
Adept in board sports and trained in the use of composite materials, Morgan and Raphaël took advantage of an economic layoff to take the plunge. The timing was ideal: time, money and an irrepressible desire to undertake. “We both worked in the same company, One Kin, based in the Châtelets area, in Trégueux (22), rewinds Morgan, 35 years old. Just after the activity ceased, in 2019, I decided to build a truck myself for my whole family ”.
Once completed, the van in question amazes professionals in the sector. After analyzing the market, the development potential seems colossal. Morgan then asks Raphael. The latter says banco. The first will take care of the research and production part, the second of sales and marketing. Saint-Brieuc Armor Agglomeration provides them with, for a rent adapted to emerging companies, a 400 m² premises on two levels, 8 quai Armez, in Le Légué.
We use a 3D scanner of the vehicle and offer specific solutions for each customer
Volkswagen Transporter, Peugeot Traveler, Ford Transit, Renault Trafic, etc. : all models “less than 15 years old” and “less than 2 m in height” are possible, with made-to-measure guaranteed. “We use a 3D scanner of the vehicle and offer specific solutions for each customer. We know, for example, that a windsurfing enthusiast or cycling enthusiast will not have the same needs and the same expectations in terms of fittings (wardrobe, storage, etc.) ”.
The raw materials come from the West or from a country of the European Union: Dinan foams (ADL Decoration), the sliding curtains of Maine-et-Loire, or the hinges of Austria. “We favor rather high-end materials so as not to have to manage an after-sales service”, summarizes Raphaël. Video tutorials will be produced in order to facilitate the installation of kit furniture and to expose the modularity capacities. At the same time, Exokit also offers electrical and gas installation, water reserves and vehicle insulation.
A production manager, Gabin Harivel, was recruited at the start of the year. The young company, supported by Initiative Armor (loan of honor and technical assistance), Zoopôle Développement and Agglo, is already counting on “at least two hires” by the end of the year. Exokit was born during the crisis and, given the strong winds that are blowing in this market, it should not know it right away.
