The Walking Dead is out of breath.

As the beloved zombie drama rolls out the final eight episodes of its 11th and final season, returning October 2, showrunner Angela Kang understands that expectations are high to wrap things up satisfactorily.

“The thing we felt we absolutely had to do was make sure we had some level of closure for each character’s story,” she said. TVLine. “Whatever form it takes, we wanted to get a sense of where they land emotionally…so if you didn’t see anything else after that, you would still feel like things were done.”

As to what to expect from The Walking Deadthe song of the Swan ? Well, Angela revealed that there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

“There is a concept that we used for these episodes which was [not only] suitable for [end] of the show,” she said, “but it also has to do with being in the Commonwealth, which is a community that has you stuck in your past. Our protagonists, if you look at who they were before, there’s so much growth. So they count with that. Who were we? Who are we now? Who do we want to be now?”
