Joy Behar announced on Monday’s episode of View this host Whoopi Goldberg “has a movie she’s doing and she’ll be back when she’s done what she’s doing – so she’s been gone for a while.” Today we know how long “a moment” is.
A message posted to ViewThis afternoon’s official Twitter account said, “ICYMI: Our EGOT winner is off to do EGOT stuff! See you soon, @WhoopiGoldberg! The post was accompanied by a picture of Whoopi which read, “Whoopi is in Scotland filming Neil Gaiman’s ‘Anansi Boys’ and will be back at the Hot Topics table on May 2! See you soon!”
Anansi Boys is a new Amazon Prime Video original series – not a movie – currently filming in the UK. Goldberg will star as Bird Woman in the series based on the 2005 book by Neil Gaiman, who will also serve as the series’ writer and showrunner. Anansi Boys is about a young man, Charlie Nancy (Malachi Kirby) who discovers that his deceased father was an incarnation of Anansi, a trickster god from West Africa. Eventually, Charlie learns that he has a brother who looks just like him, which begins to wreak havoc on Charlie. Goldberg’s character is one of many antagonists the brothers have to deal with in the aftermath of their father’s death.
While Whoopi’s absence will certainly be felt, the good news is that she won’t actually miss three weeks of recordings. View will be taking a previously scheduled break next week, starting Monday, April 18 and returning Monday, April 25, so she’ll technically only miss two weeks of the live show. However, she clearly has a lot of work to keep herself busy while she’s away from the panel. It’s like I always say, the work of an EGOT winner is never done.
