‘The View’ chatterboxes agree Latinos are ‘falling’ for Republican ‘scare tactics’, tips: ‘Not as media savvy’

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin and actor John Leguizamo suggested on Wednesday that some Latino voters were misled by GOP scare tactics in the midterm elections.

The panel discussed the impact of the Latino vote, especially after last week’s election. Although they noted that Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto won re-election in Nevada, the group was concerned about shifts in the Hispanic vote toward the GOP, particularly in Florida.

Hostin claimed those gains were the result of Latino voters falling for Republican “scare tactics” rather than political issues.

“I think what they’re doing is they’re using scare tactics towards Central Americans, South Americans, Cubans,” Hostin said. “They start with communism, they start with socialism. But they don’t really address the issues that Latinos face. And I’m surprised we’re falling for it.”

Leguizamo agreed: “Yeah, because we’re not – maybe we’re not as savvy as we should be. You know what I mean? As a band. So the trigger words get to us. . But they also affect white people. Trigger words attract white people too.”

“They do. They do. ‘Make America Great Again,'” Hostin replied.

“Yeah. Yeah. We know what that means: make America white again. I mean, we know that,” he joked.

Elsewhere, Leguizamo admitted that Republicans were better at reaching Latino voters than the Democratic Party.

“Well, you know, we’re the biggest — one of the biggest voting blocs. We’re also the biggest minority in the United States. We’re the oldest ethnic group in America. And we vote But you have to come. You have to talk about our problems. You have to knock on our doors. You can’t take us for granted and expect us to be there for you. Republicans understand better and they come for us. Put in our Spanish radio station, on WhatsApp. They come for us and that’s why Latinos turn to them. But just come for us Democrats,” Leguizamo said.

Co-host Ana Navarro has repeatedly denied claims that Republicans are making gains while Hispanics insist, “They didn’t budge in Arizona!” and “They didn’t move to Nevada!”

Various other media pundits, including former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, have also argued that Spanish-language “misinformation” was responsible for Republican gains in Florida. It was later reported that Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., won 55% of the Puerto Rican vote with 50% of all Latino voters in the state.

Hostin also came under fire in May for saying she doesn’t “get” Latino and black Republicans and that they are an “oxymoron.” His comments at the time drew strong reactions from minority conservatives.
