The UAW will hit the Big Three automakers at the same time for the first time in history

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union will strike against Detroit’s Big Three automakers at the same time for the first time in its history, after General Motors, Ford and Stellantis failed to reach a deal. worked with the union before. their contracts expired Thursday evening.

“Tonight, for the first time in our history, we will hit the big three at the same time,” UAW President Shawn Fain said Thursday. They are ready to strike at midnight, according to Fain.

They plan to strike at a General Motors assembly plant in Wentzville, Missouri; a Stellantis factory in Toledo, Ohio; and a Ford plant in Wayne, Michigan.

“If we have to go all out, we will,” Fain said. “Everything is on the table.”

About 150,000 American auto workers are represented by the UAW union. President Joe Biden’s green agenda is a major concern for auto workers whose jobs are being wiped out by Biden’s rapid push for a transition to electric vehicles (EVs), which require fewer workers to produce than gasoline vehicles. As Breitbart editor-in-chief Rebecca Mansour reported: “As auto workers see their wages slashed due to the adoption of electric vehicles, the Big Three executives have enjoyed a windfall from the credits Tax for Electric Vehicles in Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).”

John Binder of Breitbart reported:

“UAW members feel abandoned by the Democratic Party,” said former UAW President Bob King. Policy this week, noting the Democratic majority’s continued support for job-killing free trade as well as Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that distributes billions in taxpayer subsidies to automakers and their revenues .

“I think there’s a segment of the Democratic Party that sees itself as serving corporations rather than the common good…we’ve had a lot of disappointments,” King said.

As John Carney, economics editor of Breitbart News, said, “The impending strike by the United Auto Workers is as much a protest against Bidenomics as it is against the policies of General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Stellantis.”

As Carney detailed:

While all Americans have been hit hard by the surge in inflation linked to Biden’s deficit spending, Detroit’s autoworkers have had it far worse than most of their fellow Americans.. The place we once called Arsenal of democracy was ground zero for the destructive explosion of Bidenflation.

The promise of low inflation has been shattered by the Biden administration’s excessive fiscal policies and the Federal Reserve’s accommodative monetary policies.

This only made things worse as the Democrats have repeatedly sought to downplay inflation or blame it on corporate greed or Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. Just this month, stalwart left-wing Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York was circulate the idea that inflation was just a “Propaganda.” Even when Democrats admit that inflation is problematic and linked to excessive fiscal and monetary expansion, they act as if it is a necessary sacrifice due to the pandemic. They never mentioned that the sacrifice was borne more heavily by some than by others, and even less by others. recognized the prices paid by our auto workers.

However, Carney said the strike would not be a “disaster” for the economy, as other media outlets have predicted.

Ford blamed the UAW for the lack of agreement, saying the union’s counteroffer “showed little progress on the union’s initial demands submitted on August 3.”

“We don’t want there to be a strike. We are ready to work until the deadline,” Ford CEO Jim Farley told CNN on Thursday. “We would like to make history by reaching a historic agreement, not by organizing a historic strike,”

The UAW is seeking a 36 percent pay raise over four and a half years, but automakers have responded with offers that are about half that increase, according to the Associated Press.
