The Third Ward store is a voice for the black comic community
Houston, TX — Comics are for everyone. That’s the philosophy of Gulf Coast Cosmos Comicbook Co. in Houston’s Third Ward.
Located on Stuart and Emancipation streets, the store primarily sells comic books created by and featuring various people.
Owner, Byron Canady, started his business during the pandemic by selling comics online.
With support from the Emancipation Economic Development Council, he opened a physical store the following year.
He says Gulf Coast Cosmos Comics is proud to reflect the community in which they are based.
In addition to selling comics and graphic novels, it also sells fan art and exclusive apparel and hosts comic-themed events all over town.
