The Sultan of Brunei’s daughter married her first cousin in an extravagant ceremony at her father’s palace.
Princess Azemah and her new husband, Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah, kicked off their week-long wedding celebrations in the independent sultanate of the Southeast Asian island of Borneo on January 8.
Prince Bahar is the son of the Sultan’s brother, Prince Jefri Bolkiah.
The lavish series of events began in the banquet hall of the Istana Nurul Iman Palace, the Sultan’s official residence, followed by seven ceremonies.

Among them were the traditional exchange of gifts, the presentation of royal regalia, a three-day wedding ceremony and dinner.
The bride’s younger brother, Prince Mateen, shared a preview of the wedding on his Instagram along with photos of the powdering ceremony and the final wedding rite, which took place on January 15.
“So happy for my dearest big sister and BJB,” he wrote alongside the photos.
The Sultan of Brunei became the world’s longest-living monarch following the death of Queen Elizabeth II last September.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is not only Brunei’s absolute monarch and supreme leader of the Islamic faith, but also the country’s prime minister, finance minister, foreign and trade minister, superintendent of police , the minister of defense and the commander of the armed forces, and even the chancellor of the national university.
He has an estimated personal wealth of $27.7 billion, earning him a place among the richest leaders in the world.
