For its second edition, the “World Power-to-X Summit” is a new hit. The event, which started on Wednesday in Marrakech and ends today, mobilized more than 500 participants from 30 countries to discuss the means to be implemented to develop the green hydrogen market at scale. International.

Full house for the 2nd edition of the “World Power-to-X Summit”. The summit, which began this Wednesday in Marrakech, brings together more than 500 participants from 30 countries to discuss the means to be put in place to develop the green hydrogen market at the international level. Organized by the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) in partnership with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the GreenH2 Cluster, the event today constitutes a regional platform, dedicated to green hydrogen. and its applications throughout the Power-To-X (PtX) economy.

“While we are in the process of building our gas system by connecting two continents, we want to make a major leap in the development of a modern system of green hydrogen and its derivatives,” said the Minister for Energy Transition and sustainable development, Leila Benali, at the opening of the event. And to add that the Kingdom is putting on the installation of large production and marketing capacities in this sector.

Same story with Samir Rachidi, Acting Director General of IRESEN and SG of the Green H2 Cluster, who recalled that “the green hydrogen sector is a great opportunity for Morocco which has been recognized among the 6 country with the highest potential in the world. The production of green hydrogen in Morocco, in addition to promoting our economic growth, will contribute to the decarbonization of our industry and will allow us to co-finance our transition and our energy security”.

During this first day, three partnership agreements were signed. The first, between the Green H2 Cluster, the MEDEF and the CGEM, aims to promote bilateral cooperation and the establishment of partnerships between the Moroccan and French business communities in the field of hydrogen and its derivatives.

“Green hydrogen, as a source of clean and renewable energy, can become an important export product from Africa to Europe, in order to substitute fossil fuels and accomplish the energy transition. This news resource presents itself, from this point of view, as vital for Africa so that it can offer its population efficient and reliable energy services, in favor of sustained economic development, a strongly anchored regional integration and of the industrialization of the countries of the continent”, indicated, for his part, the president of the employers’ association, Chakib Alj. In this sense, he stressed the need to put in place adequate and innovative mechanisms to take advantage of this window of opportunity that is Power to X.

The second partnership agreement between IRESEN and the National Ports Agency (ANP) concerns support and technical assistance in the field of green hydrogen and its derivatives, particularly in terms of handling, transport and storage. . The third, between ONHYM, SOMAS, UIT and GEP, is part of the MELHY research project “Study of hydrogen storage capacity in salt cavities”.

The “World Power-to-X Summit 2022” will feature, from June 22 to 24, experts from different sectors over ten sessions, as well as major global investors, policymakers, innovators, industrial leaders and research experts. This second edition aims to validate high-level discussions and partnerships for a new era of clean energy, made possible by the opportunities of green hydrogen.

The first projects from 2025 in Guelmim-Oued Noun
The second edition of the “World Powerto-X Summit 2022” was an opportunity to take stock of the green hydrogen projects under development in the Kingdom. The president of the Association of Presidents of the Regions of Morocco and the Council of the GuelmimOued Noun region, Mbarka Bouaïda, unveiled the promising prospects for this region endowed with special renewable resources, in particular solar and wind power. “According to the buyers of our partners, the first green hydrogen projects will see the light of day in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region as early as 2025. Our ambition is to position ourselves as a pioneer region in this field at the national level and to become a international industrial platform for the production and export of green hydrogen”, she assured.
