The Players Championship Betting Guide

This week’s event has a deep and competitive field with 48 of the world’s top 50 ranked golfers taking part. In case you were wondering why this is the deepest field we’ve seen in a long time, a $5 million increase in total prize money was bound to get players’ attention, right?

Justin Thomas is the defending champion of the event, and at the current price, this is again a great value. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Jon Rahm share the top spot on the odds list or be listed at a price above +1000, which is also very tempting.

Bryson DeChambeau is still injured and was forced to withdraw from the event. It still takes away a bit of entertainment value, but it should be a great week of golf on a course that doesn’t seem to suit any particular type of player. You need a good full game to win.

Bets to consider

Collin Morikawa earns +1400

Picking from the top of the odds chart isn’t rocket science, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be profitable. Also, these ratings vary a lot from book to book, so you can get +1600 or +1800. Anyway, Morikawa is a stallion and even though he wasn’t very good at this event last year; his best lap was his last, a 66. It’s very promising for the future.

Si Woo Kim top 10 (+600)

If you read this space often, you know that I am a fan of players who have already succeeded on a course. Kim won here in 2017, her biggest victory on the Tour. His results this season have been just ok, a few 11ths, but that’s why we get paid for a good but not a winning performance.

Rory McIlroy +1800

He is one of the few players on the field to have won this event before (2019). He also has consistency on his side. He finished four times in the Players top 10. Another good bet right next to this best odds list.

Matt Fitzpatrick Top 20 (+175)

He has been one of the most consistent golfers on the tour this season. In his last five events he has finished no worse than 12th. He also finished ninth at this event last year, so it’s far from a stretch to expect a repeat performance this week, even if he’s not fighting for victory.

Hideki Matsuyama +3000

Matsuyama already has two wins this season. He’s a heavy sleeper this week considering he didn’t even make the cut in 2021 at this event. It probably took him off a lot of radar, but if you dig deep you see he was leading this event before COVID scuttled it in 2020. That has to count for something.
