Researchers are still pulling together data, early anecdotal evidence and existing knowledge about COVID-19 to better understand the new mutated omicron variant of the coronavirus. But less than two weeks after the start of the global effort, these clues give experts a glimpse of the variant’s threat.
The consensus so far: vaccines are likely to continue to protect against serious disease, but the variant can be highly infectious, even in people who have been fully vaccinated or have already been infected.
