There’s been a lot of big news about the NBA lately as teams firmed up their rosters and geared up for the new season.

But perhaps no development has made fans as happy as the news that Inside The NBA on TNT would return for at least ten years with the return of the main host team consisting of Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley.

NBA on TNT celebrated the news by posting a photo of the show in its early days alongside an image of the basketball entertainment juggernaut it has become.

This series has truly become something special that is respected by both players and fans alike and has become an essential part of every NBA season.

The inner institution

Inside The NBA made its debut on TNT in the 1989-90 season when the network first acquired the rights to broadcast NBA games.

The original host list included Craig Sager, Hannah Storm, Vince Cellini, Tim Brando and Fred Hickman.

During his second season, Johnson transitioned from being a sideline reporter to a full-time host.

Johnson is still on the show and is truly the centerpiece of the front desk, while O’Neal, Smith and Barkley provide great insight, poke fun at each other and highlight the biggest stories of the league.

Thankfully, each of these stars returns in future seasons.

It really wouldn’t be Inside The NBA without them.

The show has become an important part of the league and now features spin-off shows on Tuesdays and on NBA TV.

But Inside The NBA with this group of hosts will always be the original and most loved by fans.
