The NASDAQ index erases previous declines and trades higher in the day

The Dow industrial average and the S&P index are still falling

The NASDAQ index erased earlier declines and is trading higher the day before Powell and Yellen testified on Capitol Hill.

The NASDAQ index is currently up 37 points or 0.24% 15,820.70.

The S&P index and the Dow industrial average remain negative:

  • Dow industrial average -215 points or -0.60% to 34,924.80
  • S&P index -12 points or -0.26% to 4643.40

US rates remain sharply lower with the 10-year rate falling by nearly 10 basis points:

In the forex market, the USD hit new lows for the day against the EUR, JPY, CHF, AUD and NZD at the start of US trading. The greenback is still higher than the CAD (as oil drops) but erased some of the gains from the US session.


Data on consumer confidence came out weaker than expected today.
