Reigning AL MVP Shohei Ohtani achieved a major milestone over the weekend. On Saturday, in the fifth inning of Game 2 of a doubleheader against Oakland, the 27-year-old phenom took A-rookie Adam Oller deep for the 100th home run of his career. He became the third Japanese player to reach the century milestone in home runs, after Hideki Matsui and Ichiro Suzuki. Afterwards, Angels skipper Joe Maddon said fans should start getting used to Ohtani racking up the accomplishments. “He does it every day. It’s no longer surprising. I don’t want to say, ‘I expect it’, but we do expect it. It’s just who he is right now. He’s going to continue to add to that. you’re gonna hear more names, you’re gonna hear more milestones.”
Which brings us to today’s quiz. During the 2021 MVP campaign, Ohtani hit 46 dingers, missing just one to tie the Angels franchise record. So, with that in mind, how many single-season home runs for each MLB team can you name in five minutes?
