Rory McIlroy endured another scorching day at Augusta National and even hit his own father in the leg with a drop shot in the seventh, one of the former World No.1’s many mistakes in the first round.

Rory McIlroy’s tough start to the 85th Masters was also painful for his father, who suffered a leg injury from a stray shot from his son on the seventh hole.

After starting with four pars, McIlroy dropped shots in the fifth and sixth and then fired his drive to the left of the fairway on the difficult seventh, but his daring attempt to reach the green in two only resulted in a bruise for Father Gerry.

In an attempt to hit a toss around the pines, McIlroy blocked his center iron and clearly shouted “forward” as his ball spun towards the customers on the right, although it seemed like the warning cries didn were not enough to alert his father.

Gerry McIlroy was walking towards the green when his son’s ball hit him in the side of the leg, but at least he didn’t deflect him into serious trouble!

“I should ask for a signed glove,” Gerry joked to reporters. McIlroy Jnr, however, was far from all smiles as he was unable to get on and off and carded a third bogey in a row and although he recovered one in the long eighth he dropped another shot. in the ninth to turn 39 – three above par.

The worst was to follow the back nine, shooting his second into the pond to the left of the 11th green, and he then lost another ball in the water along the 13th as he pulled up a deflated six to slide to five over normal for the tournament.
