The main indices are on the rise. Dow clears last week’s losses / Nasdaq higher but lagging behind


The main US stock indexes end the session with mixed gains. The three main indices were led by the Dow Jones. The Russell 2000, which was the most beaten in all weather, posted the best gains of the day. The Nasdaq index, which is 6% from the all-time high, fell behind but still rose 0.93% on the day.

All S&P sectors advanced that day with consumer staples, industrials and communications services leading the way.

The Dow industrial average briefly rose above the 50-day moving average at 35,297.19 (see chart below), but ended up closing between the above 50-day moving average and the moving average of 100 days below at 35,142.78. Tomorrow traders will watch moving average levels for bias indices

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 646.95 points or 1.87% to 35,227.02
  • The S&P Index rose 53.24 points or 1.17% to 4,591.68
  • The NASDAQ index rose 139.69 points or 0.93% than 15,225.16
  • The Russell 2000 Index rose 44.17 points or 2.05% from 2,203.47
