The regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela published this Thursday a statement to express its “concern about the worsening of the crisis in Ukraine” and reaffirm its position as an ally of the government of Vladimir Putin in Russia.

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its concern about the worsening of the crisis in Ukraine, and deplores the mockery and breach of the Minsk Agreements by NATO promoted by the United States of America”, pointed out the text disclosed by Maduro and other organs of the regime through social networks. “The derailment of these agreements has violated International Law and has generated strong threats against the Russian Federation, its territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as impeding good relations between neighboring countries.”, remarked the statement.

And he added: “Venezuela calls for a return to the path of diplomatic understanding through effective dialogue between the parties involved in the conflict to avoid escalation, reaffirming the negotiation mechanisms contemplated in the Charter of the United Nations, in order to preserve life, the peace of the inhabitants of these countries and the stability of the region”.

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in accordance with its constitutional peace diplomacy, expresses its best wishes for the peaceful resolution of this conflict, while rejecting the application of illegal sanctions and economic attacks against the Russian people, which massively affect the enjoyment of their human rights”he concluded.

On February 16, Maduro held a meeting with Russia’s deputy prime minister, Yuri Borisov, in Caracas in which he ratified that his country is on “the path of powerful military cooperation” with the Eurasian nation.

“We have ratified the path of a powerful military cooperation between Russia and Venezuela for the defense of peace, sovereignty, territorial integrity, a powerful military cooperation,” Maduro said in a statement at the Miraflores presidential palace.

Without giving details in this regard, he said that Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino “has precise instructions”, as well as “the entire higher staff”.

Six days later, he accused the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) of wanting to “finish” Russia militarily, and reaffirmed all its support for the Eurasian country in the crisis with Ukraine.

“We have been attentively observing the events in Russia, in the Ukraine, observing not just now, the evolution of the process where the North American empire and NATO intend by military means to end Russia, stop Russia and end this multipolar world that is already a reality”expressed in an act broadcast by the state channel Venezuelan Television (VTV).

He also said that “Lugansk and Donetsk assumed the functions of people’s republics to defend themselves from a massacre that the fascist sectors that had seized power in Ukraine began to execute hunting men, assaulting families, bombing, with heavy weapons and a very harsh conflict began”, although he did not clarify whether he recognizes these provinces as independent nations.
