‘The level at Tottenham is not that high’ – Antonio Conte gives brutally honest assessment of Spurs after Europa Conference League loss to NS Mura

Antonio Conte gave a scathing assessment of his Tottenham side following their embarrassing defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Slovenian minnows as goals from Tomi Horvat and Amadej Marosa stunned the Premier League side.

The result was Conte’s first loss since taking charge – and an embarrassing loss at that.

He reacted in a brutally honest manner during the post-match press conference.

“After three weeks I’m starting to understand the situation – it’s not easy,” Conte said.

“At the moment, the level at Tottenham is not that high.”

He added: “I’m happy to stay here, but we have to work a lot to improve the quality of the team.

“We are Tottenham, but there is a big gap with the top teams, but I’m not afraid.”

When asked if he spoke to his players right after the result, Conte replied: “Usually I prefer not to talk to them after the game, especially when the game is not good because you are too emotionally involved.

“After the game I think it’s good not to talk to the players. We will do it tomorrow.

“A bad loss, I’m not happy with what happened. It’s the second time in a row that we’ve finished the match with 10, against Vitesse it was the same.

“We risked not winning against Vitesse and today it happened.”

In Spurs’ last game, they came from behind to secure a morale-boosting victory over Leeds United which saw Conte secure his first Premier League win at the club.

Mura’s result will be a sobering wake-up call, however, with a number of poor performances displayed in Slovenia.

Matt Doherty made a rare appearance, while Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon also featured.

Unfortunately for all four players, they weren’t able to make the most of the opportunity.

Doherty and Alli were both substituted before the hour mark, Ndombele started with 15 minutes remaining and Sessegnon was sent off in the first half for two remaining infractions.

Harry Kane’s first goal under Conte was a lone positive on the night.
