We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: There’s no shortage of Vanillaware. The Japanese developer behind fantasy titles like 13 Sentinels, Dragon’s Crown and Odin Sphere is currently putting the finishing touches on its next game, Unicorn Overlord. The fantasy RPG was announced in September and is set to release on March 8.
Certainly, we are already sold. New details about Unicorn Overlord have been revealed, revealing that the game will feature over 60 recruitable characters and a dynamic world that you’re free to roam between main story battles.
“Explore the vast world at your leisure, participating in various quests and events. Fight enemies, liberate and rebuild captured settlements, and prepare your forces to advance even further,” reads the official press release.
So, you will march your army on a world map, capture territories and reap rewards as you go, while improving the level of your favorite fighters. Apparently you’ll also be able to try your hand at an ore mining mini-game.
When it comes to the game’s story, the press release is pretty in-depth. “The story takes place on the continent of Fevrith, once made up of five nations: Cornia, Drakenhold, Elheim, Bastorias and Albion. However, the resurgent Zenoirian Empire led by Galerius now dominates the entire continent,” we can read . Where would we be without an evil, conquering empire to take down?
Additionally, we received a host of new screenshots:
